Phonique
After moving to Berlin in the mid 90’s, Michael Vater a.k.a Phonique was
on the go like few others in Berlin. His successful parties and club nights
attracted much support and paved him the way to become one of the true
nice guys in Berlin’s clubscene. At first he only organized parties, then
after a while he started to DJ himself: ‚DJ Phonique‘ was born.
In 2009 ‚The Pump E.P.‘ on Dessous hit the scene and stirred up a
tremendous buzz around the electronic dance music circus. Aways a
surprising talent, this was the start to another fresh and exciting year!
Later in ‚09 he released the ‚Time For House‘ compilation and mix on
Ladies & Gentlemen, which included tracks from faithful House heads like
Vincenzo, Tigerskin amongst many others.
In 2010 we are greeted by Phonique‘s third full-length album -
‚Kissing Strangers‘, on home label Dessous. Its a super detailed, lovingly
produced ode-to-house in all its wonderful forms, from deep, minimal to
jazz and latin inspirations. Across 15 tracks (each co-produced with longtime
colleague Alex Kruger a.k.a Tigerskin, and also a heavyweight list of
respected producers like Gui Boratto, H.O.S.H, Kiloo, Kikiorix, Abyss and
Pupkulies) we encounter all that is rich, pure and beautiful about modern
electronic music. From catchy, underground-pop moments, to strong clubready
cuts, its a long player in the true sense of the phrase. The first single
to be lifted from the Album, entitled ‚Our Time Our Chance‘ feat. Ian
Whitelaw, is presented along with amazing remixes by Andre Lodemann
and Wahoo.
